Honeymoon

Santorini & Crete, Greece

The couple were married on the island of Santorini, where they spent a week honeymooning before moving on to the island of Crete for another week and a half. They were based in Rethymno most of the time, but also spent a few days in Chania.

In Santorini, highlights of the trip included:

-Seeing the sunset in Oia from their rooftop hot tub;
-Finding as many blue domes as possible along the walk from Fira through Imerovigli to Oia;
-Visiting the Lost Atlantis Experience Museum in Megalochori;
-Touring the archaeological site of Akrotiri;
-Exploring the ruins of Ancient Thera;
-Seeing the colourful contrasts of Red, White & Black Beaches;
-Taking photos at the Akrotiri lighthouse;
-Attending a fascinating mythical music presentation in Megalochori;
-Climbing up the island’s volcano;
-Cruising around the caldera on a boat tour;
-Horse riding on the beach at sunset;
-Tasting wine at four of the island’s oldest vineyards.

In Crete, the honeymooners were intent on relaxing, taking advantage of their hotel’s hot tub, steam room, and sauna, and simply enjoying the atmosphere. Other highlights included:

-Walking along the beach in Rethymno;
-Snorkelling and stand-up paddle boarding in Souda Bay;
-Meandering about the streets of the Old Towns in both Rethymno and Chania;
-Watching sunset while having a drink by the water at the Old Port in both Rethymno and Chania;
-Visiting the Venetian Fortezza in Rethymno;
-Exploring the ruins at Ancient Aptera, near Chania;
-Day hiking at Samaria Gorge;
-Attending an olive oil tasting hosted by an executive chef in Rethymno.
